The Team

Tim was born and raised in Cologne, Germany, and has spent much of his life thinking and writing about politics and social life in general. He studied Political Science at the University of Chicago and received his Ph.D. in International Relations from the Ohio State University. In his dissertation, he developed a theory of generations and explained how political generations change the world (or not). Besides teaching courses on international relations, U.S. security, and global change, he was the managing editor for the journal International Theory from 2012 until 2017. After living in the United States for 15 years, he returned to Germany, where he works as an independent scholar and consultant. His expertise covers a wide range of areas from international conflict to the political theory of deliberation, urban development, and strategic communication.

Sonja is a multi-talent artist and craftswoman. She has a degree in graphic design with a focus on photography and illustration from the University of Applied Science in Duesseldorf. Her career as a professional photographer began in 2004. Since then, she has worked for the German and British radio stations 1Live, WDR 2, BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service), BBC 6 Music and has photographed artists, such as The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, and David Bowie. Via the Ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, Sonja had her own exhibition in Manchester’s famous Night and Day Café. For her art project “6 Questions about Music”, she photographed musicians, such as Peter Hook (New Order/Joy Division) and asked them to answer six questions about music in their own handwriting. Aside from all that, Sonja is an illustrator, jewelry maker, singer and bass player, seamstress, and freelance photographer.
